SHIATSU in North London |
Shiatsu is the Japanese word for "finger pressure" although it not only incorporates the use of finger pressure but also palms, thumbs, knees, forearms, elbows and feet. Pressure is applied to the energy lines of the body, also called meridians, to stimulate the body's energy flow, called ki. Shiatsu concentrates on unblocking and releasing any stagnant energy in order to restore balance in the meridians and organs of the body to promote healing. In addition to pressure shiatsu involves gentle stretch and manipulation techniques. Sometimes "holding" techniques are used, usually using the palm. In shiatsu the physical touch is used to assess the distribution of ki throughout the body and to try to correct any imbalances if necessary. As in acupuncture certain pressure points on the meridians of the body relate to certain organs. Shiatsu is used to treat a range of conditions such as back, neck and shoulder pain, digestive disorders, migraine, headaches, circulatory problems, asthma, fatigue, anxiety, depression and stress. Shiatsu massage is regarded in Japan as a way to prevent illness and diseases and to maintain good health and well-being. It is certainly a very relaxing experience. |
